Welcome!

Within this website I hope to provide the visitor with a sense of what  I am attempting to communicate through my paintings and sculpture. For me, art is a journey.

I subscribe to the theory that life is measured not in the number of breaths one takes but in the moments your breath is taken away. I have been fortunate in that I have had the opportunity to encounter, first hand, so many sights that impacted me personally. My art attempts to share those moments and, if they impact you on some emotional level as well… then I have achieved some measure of success.

I work primarily in oil and watercolor but occasionally will do two dimensional work in acrylics. In terms of subject matter, I look for shapes, color and narrative that interest me more than any particular genre'. Tour this web site and you might see urban as well as traditional landscapes, still life and figurative studies. Most of my work is representational but, occasionally, a shape or color will capture my attention and I will manipulate, de-construct and reassemble the image until it only hints at the original. Again, art is a journey.

If you see something you like, double click for a larger view. Double clicking the larger image returns you to the page you left.  Feedback is always appreciated (see the Contact page). Keep in mind that the website is only a small sample of my inventory. Contact me directly if you have an interest that the website does not address. Let me know if you would like to be added to my quarterly e.mail update list where I announce upcoming shows and let interested parties know about current projects.

I also have an art blog that tracks current projects from inspiration to completion. You can log in at www.joeblanfordart.wordpress.com or simply click the icon to the left. As each painting is completed, I will move it from the blog to the top of this page.

Updates

Just added Rue Saint Paul to the Wet Paint Section above. This project came from last fall's trip to New England and Canada. Check out my art blog if you would like to learn more concerning the genesis of this project. Also, Wimberley Art Fest at The Blue Hole is fast approaching. Check out the Calendar Page (once it's back in commission for 20133)!! I will be doing a plein aire demo as well as manning my 10 X 10 booth for this show. There are, as always, several projects in the pipeline so check out the Art Blog tab to the left. Also check out the Art Links page for other great sites.
